About the Discount Calculator

Enter a price and a discount percentage to see the final price and your savings. Stacked discounts, such as "20% off plus an extra 10%", are applied one after the other, which equals 28% off, not 30%. Sales tax is added after the discounts.

Reverse mode answers the opposite question: if something costs 75 after 25% off, what was the original price? It divides the sale price by (1 − discount ÷ 100).

How to use the Discount Calculator

  1. Enter the original price and discount percentage.
  2. Optionally add an extra discount and sales tax.
  3. Read the final price and savings, or switch to reverse mode to find the original price.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the savings, then subtract that from the price. 20% off 200 saves 40, so the sale price is 160.

Is 20% off plus 10% off the same as 30% off?

No. The second discount applies to the already reduced price: 200 → 160 → 144, which is a total discount of 28%.

How do I find the original price before a discount?

Divide the sale price by (1 − discount/100). An item that costs 75 after 25% off originally cost 75 ÷ 0.75 = 100.
