Frequently asked questions
What does a data URI look like?
It starts with data:, then the MIME type and ;base64, followed by the encoded data, for example data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgo…
How is the image type detected without a prefix?
Every image format starts with a recognisable signature ("magic bytes"). For example PNG starts with 89 50 4E 47 and JPEG with FF D8 FF.
Why do I get an "invalid Base64" error?
The string may be truncated, contain characters outside the Base64 alphabet, or not be an image at all. Make sure you copied the whole value.
