Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the picked colour?

The value is read directly from the decoded image pixels, so it is exact for PNG and WebP. JPEG compression can make neighbouring pixels vary slightly.

How is the palette extracted?

Pixels are grouped into similar colour buckets and the most common buckets are averaged, which gives the colours that cover the largest areas of the image.

Can I pick colours from a screenshot?

Yes. Take a screenshot, then paste it with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac) directly onto the page.
